Women of Lightfoot Host Volunteer Service Project for Girls Inc. of Central Alabama
July 15, 2020
The women of Lightfoot, Franklin & White led a volunteer service project benefitting Girls Inc. of Central Alabama. The nonprofit organization delivers life-changing programs and experiences that equip girls to overcome serious barriers to grow up strong, smart and bold.
As part of the service project, Lightfoot attorneys and summer associates planted vegetables and herbs in the garden at the nonprofit’s facility in the Crestwood neighborhood of Birmingham. The young women who participate in Girls Inc.’s programs will tend the gardens, and the vegetables will be used for instructional cooking.
“We’re honored to support such a meaningful local organization, especially during these challenging times,” said Lightfoot partner Rachel Lary, who is leading the effort and serves on the board of Girls Inc. “In lieu of our annual women’s event, we decided to focus our efforts on helping this worthwhile nonprofit that continues to invest in the young women in our community.”
Proactive measures were taken to ensure everyone participating in Friday’s two-hour service project adhered to CDC guidelines designed to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
