Terry McCarthy’s Latest Evidence Treatise Called “The Bible” of Alabama Evidence Law By Former Alabama Supreme Court Justice

May 27, 2021

Justice Bernard Harwood, Jr., a former Alabama Supreme Court Justice and chair of the Alabama Supreme Court’s Standing Advisory Committee for the Alabama Rules of Evidence, recently reviewed Lightfoot partner Terry McCarthy’s newly published edition of McElroy’s Alabama Evidence in The Alabama Lawyer. In addition to referring to McElroy’s  as “the Bible” of Alabama Evidence Law, Justice Harwood wrote that “[t]his superb new resource is an absolute must have for anyone wishing to research Alabama evidence law.”

Beyond his diverse trial and appellate practice at Lightfoot, McCarthy has served as an adjunct professor of evidence law at three different law schools and has given countless CLE presentations on evidence law. He also serves on the Alabama Supreme Court’s Standing Advisory Committee for the Alabama Rules of Evidence and is frequently called to consult and argue evidence issues at trial while preserving the appellate record on appeal. McCarthy co-authored the latest edition of McElroy’s Alabama Evidence along with Charles Gamble and Robert Goodwin.
