Terry McCarthy Given 2016 Judge Walter P. Gewin Award Winner by the Alabama State Bar
June 23, 2016
The Judge Walter P. Gewin Award was created in 1982 to acknowledge significant contributions by lawyers in the development and presentation of CLE programs by CLE Alabama. The award is named for Judge Walter P. Gewin, who as President of the Alabama State Bar, helped to start the CLE department as a cooperative effort between The University of Alabama School of Law and the Alabama State Bar. The Gewin Award was presented at the Alabama State Bar meeting on June 23, 2016 to Lightfoot Partner Terry McCarthy by Dean Charles Gamble. Terry worked for Dean Gamble for two years in law school as a research assistant. In the summer of 2012, Terry joined Dean Gamble and Robert Goodwin as co-author of McElroy’s Alabama Evidence and Gamble’s Alabama Rules of Evidence, the leading treatises on Alabama evidence that are “must reads” for any Alabama practitioner. Terry routinely gives CLE presentations on evidentiary issues, and he currently teaches evidence courses at Cumberland School of Law and Birmingham School of Law.
