Terry McCarthy Delivers Inspiring Commencement Address to Cumberland School of Law Graduates

On May 13, 2016, Lightfoot partner Terry McCarthy delivered the commencement address at Cumberland School of Law, where McCarthy teaches evidence courses as an adjunct professor.  The speech, entitled “Three Stories,” began with the inspirational story of how a thoroughbred racehorse, Afleet Alex, helped raise national awareness for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, an organization founded by a cancer-stricken little girl that has raised tens of millions of dollars for pediatric cancer research.  The second story was about Jere White, a Cumberland graduate and one of Lightfoot’s founding partners who, prior to his untimely death in 2011, was both a great lawyer and an inspiration to many.  Giving praise to Jere was particularly appropriate at that ceremony, as the first recipient of the Jere White Fellowship, a prestigious scholarship given each year to one entering Cumberland student, was one of the graduates.  For the third and final story, McCarthy told the story of the graduating class from his perspective, which included several humorous stories about the graduates.  To watch the speech and to read more about it and how it was received, click on the following links:
