July 25, 2024

Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC partner Rachelle E. Sanchez recently addressed the benefits and risks of artificial intelligence (AI) for the legal profession at the Alabama State Bar Environmental Law Section meeting on June 21 in Sandestin, Florida.

In her presentation, “Legal Practice in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Ethical Considerations,” Sanchez discussed how AI is being used in the practice of law, as well as the current landscape of regulations and guidelines. Sanchez, who is a member of Lightfoot’s Technology and Innovation Committee, also provided practical takeaways for attendees regarding how to mitigate risk and comply with legal ethics rules. She emphasized the importance of lawyers’ duties of competency, supervision and confidentiality at all times when using any new technology, including AI.

The Environmental Law Section of the Alabama State Bar provides a forum for discussion, networking, continuing legal education and exchange of ideas leading to improvement and development in the field of environmental law, at both the state and federal level, and communication with other lawyers and professionals practicing in the environmental area.

Sanchez is a former criminal prosecutor who defends clients in a variety of cases in state and federal courts throughout the country. She regularly represents clients in cases involving wrongful death, product liability, catastrophic injury, automotive litigation, healthcare and medical malpractice. She often serves as local counsel for multinational conglomerates in matters before Alabama courts and the Eleventh Circuit.
