December 4, 2024
Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC partner Rachelle E. Sanchez recently addressed the benefits and risks of leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) for legal work at the Alabama State Bar Construction Industry Section meeting on Dec. 3 in Birmingham, Alabama.
In her presentation, “Legal Practice in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Ethical Considerations,” Sanchez explored AI applications in the practice of law, as well as the current landscape of regulations and guidelines. A member of Lightfoot’s Technology and Innovation committee, she provided practical takeaways for attendees on mitigating risk when using AI and ensuring compliance with ethics rules. Sanchez emphasized the importance of meeting the duties of competency, supervision and confidentiality at all times when adopting new technology like AI.
This marks Sanchez's second AI-focused presentation this year. In July, she spoke about AI ethics for the Alabama State Bar’s Environmental Law Section.
Sanchez is a former criminal prosecutor who defends clients in a variety of cases in state and federal courts throughout the country. She regularly handles cases involving wrongful death, product liability, catastrophic injury, automotive litigation, healthcare and medical malpractice. Sanchez often serves as local counsel for multinational conglomerates in matters before Alabama courts and the Eleventh Circuit.
