Liz Huntley Publishes Article on Working with a Guardian ad Litem in DRI’s ‘The Voice’

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (May 14, 2018) — Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC of counsel Liz Huntley recently published an article in “The Voice,” a weekly newsletter sent to members of DRI: The Voice of the Defense Bar. Titled "Four Tips for Navigating a Case Involving a Guardian Ad Litem," it offers guidance to defense litigators when a civil suit settlement they are working on involves a minor.

“When a minor is involved in a civil lawsuit and a settlement is reached, a guardian ad litem must be appointed to represent the interests of the minor,” writes Huntley, who is frequently brought in by judges to serve in such a role. Her article provides practical tips for how defense litigators can work with a guardian ad litem to ensure the settlement process proceeds smoothly.

In addition to handling large corporate litigation matters at Lightfoot, Huntley is a committed child advocate and provides legal and consultation services to government and nonprofit agencies that serve children and families. She is frequently appointed by judges to represent the legal interests of children in civil cases.

Huntley also serves as a motivational speaker to various groups and organizations where she challenges audiences to adopt her “no excuses” philosophy. In 2015, she published her personal memoir, “More Than A Bird,” which recounts her childhood journey “from unimaginable darkness to radiance.”
