Lightfoot’s Terry McCarthy Raises More Than $26,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer
For the sixth summer in a row, Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC partner Terry McCarthy has raised thousands of dollars to support pediatric cancer research.
This year, McCarthy and the "Lightfoot Lemons'' team raised more than $26,000 to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a national childhood cancer charity. This amount exceeds the team’s original fundraising goal for this year of $20,000.
Once again, the fundraising effort focused on McCarthy performing 2,000 push-ups in a day, one for each dollar the late, 4-year-old Alex raised in her first lemonade stand. Several of Lightfoot’s summer clerks joined him in the challenge.
“It's an honor to once again bring the Birmingham and Lightfoot communities together in support of this great and important cause," said McCarthy. "I greatly appreciate all who cheered me on and helped us meet our fundraising goals!"
McCarthy and the firm smashed their fundraising goal this year thanks to support from the Birmingham community and beyond. He has raised close to $150,000 to support ALSF over the past six years, earning recognition as a “top fundraiser” by the foundation.
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front-yard lemonade stand of 4-year-old Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who was fighting cancer and wanted to raise money to find cures for all children with the disease. Her spirit and determination inspired others to support her cause, and by the time she passed away at the age of 8, she had raised $1 million. Since then, the foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement. Today, ALSF is one of the leading funders of pediatric cancer research in the U.S. and Canada, raising more than $200 million so far, funding more than 1,000 research projects and providing programs to families affected by childhood cancer.
