Lightfoot’s Terry McCarthy Named 2018 ‘Friend of Cumberland School of Law’

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (September 14, 2018) — Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC partner Terry McCarthy has been named the 2018 ‘Friend of Cumberland School of Law’ at Samford University.
The award recognizes a person, who though not a graduate of the school, has contributed time and resources to enhance the quality of the law school and the educational experience of its students.
“We’re delighted for Terry to receive this recognition from such an important institution in Birmingham,” said Lightfoot managing partner Melody Eagan. “He is passionate about educating the next generation of lawyers and always gives of his time so freely to serve our community.”
McCarthy has served as an adjunct instructor of Evidence and Advanced Evidence at Cumberland Law School since 2012. In 2016, graduating students chose him to be the commencement speaker, and he received the Cumberland School of Law’s “Outstanding Adjunct Professor Award” for the 2017-2018 academic year.
In addition to his diverse trial and appellate practice, McCarthy is a preeminent authority on evidence issues in the state of Alabama. He is coauthor of the Third Edition of Gamble’s Alabama Rules of Evidence and the forthcoming Seventh Edition of McElroy’s Alabama Evidence. He also serves on the Alabama Supreme Court Advisory Committee to the Alabama Rules of Evidence. Prior to attending law school, McCarthy worked as a university administrator, obtaining master’s and doctorate degrees of education.
