Lightfoot’s Liz Huntley Speaks at National Conference of State Legislatures 2018 Legislative Summit

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (September 6, 2018) — Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC of counsel Elizabeth H. Huntley recently spoke at the 2018 Legislative Summit hosted by the National Conference of State Legislatures.

The annual, four-day event in Los Angeles brought together more than 5,000 attendees from around the country and across the public policy spectrum, including state legislators, legislative staff, government officials, business representatives and educators.

Huntley spoke in a session titled “Childhood Trauma: The Everyday Problem That is Running States Dry.”  She discussed the impact of adverse childhood experiences on children and the power of early childhood intervention.

In addition to handling large corporate litigation matters at Lightfoot, Huntley is a committed child advocate and provides legal and consultation services to government and nonprofit agencies that serve children and families. She is often appointed by judges to represent the legal interests of children in civil cases.

Huntley is also a frequent consultant to government on issues and legislation that impact children. She travels around the country speaking on these matters and sharing her own story. A leader in the movement to expand access to high quality pre-K to all four-year-olds in Alabama, Huntley has received several state and national awards for her work on behalf of children.

Huntley also serves as a motivational speaker to various groups and organizations where she challenges audiences to adopt her “no excuses” philosophy. In 2015, she published her personal memoir, “More Than A Bird,” which recounts her childhood journey “from unimaginable darkness to radiance.”
