March 4, 2020
Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC partner Sanford G. Hooper and associate Rachelle E. Sanchez recently won a case before the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The matter was on appeal from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, where Hooper and Sanchez secured a summary judgment in favor of their client.
The firm’s client faced a claim under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). The trial court granted summary judgment in the client’s favor and the plaintiff appealed. At the 11th Circuit, a three-judge panel agreed with Hooper and Sanchez’s arguments and affirmed the summary judgment.
Hooper focuses his practice on product liability, premises liability, transportation litigation and medical device litigation. In particular, he has extensive experience in defending automobile and heavy truck manufacturers and motor carriers in suits arising from catastrophic accidents. He also defends medical device companies, suppliers of automotive components and a railroad service provider.
Before joining Lightfoot, Sanchez was a criminal prosecutor, where she first-chaired numerous trials and spent the majority of her time in the courtroom. Now, she applies that trial and courtroom experience to her civil practice, where she focuses on medical malpractice and product liability litigation defense.
