Lightfoot, Franklin & White’s Clint Speegle Publishes Article in University Business about Campus Drone Policies
June 12, 2017
Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC associate Clinton T. Speegle recently authored an article for University Business, a leading publication for C-level executives at U.S. colleges and universities, titled "Drafting policies for a campus drone."
In his piece, Speegle explores the opportunities and challenges drone technology presents for university campuses across the country. The article lays out considerations administrators should evaluate when developing drone policies. Speegle recently drafted a drone policy for a major research university in the southeastern United States.
“Balancing the benefits—from improved academic curriculum to research grants to enhanced fan experiences at sporting events, and everything in between—with safety and privacy risks is fast becoming a must-do item for every university,” writes Speegle. “Simply adopting a campus policy that either prohibits or permits all drone activities is not appropriate balancing.”
Speegle is a member of the firm’s Aviation & Aerospace and NCAA Compliance & Investigations practice teams. He’s a former U.S. Army attack helicopter pilot and wrote the Standard Operating Procedures for unarmed aerial vehicles (UAVs) used by the 4th Infantry Division.
