Lightfoot, Franklin & White’s Ashby Pate Receives Cumberland School of Law’s 2017 Young Alumnus Award

Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC attorney Ashby Pate has received the 2017 Young Alumnus Award by Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law. The award is presented annually to a Cumberland alumnus who graduated within the last 15 years and who exemplifies exceptional service to the community, the legal profession and the law school.

Pate accepted the award at the school’s annual alumni reunion reception on April 7 in Birmingham.

“I am incredibly honored to be selected by my alma mater for this recognition,” Pate said. “My time at Cumberland helped shape me into the attorney I am today, and I’m grateful to be chosen among many distinguished alumni and peers.”

“We’re proud of Ashby and the work that has earned him this distinction,” said Lightfoot managing partner Wynn Shuford. “He is an integral part of this firm and is deeply devoted to his clients and the Birmingham community. This recognition is much deserved.”

Pate focuses his practice on international disputes, appellate work, and commercial and medical device litigation. He routinely takes on some of the firm’s most controversial matters, including prosecuting a high-profile case that led to the suspension of a former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. Most recently, he was named a deputy Alabama attorney general to represent former Interim State Superintendent of Education, Philip Cleveland in a lawsuit brought by former state superintendent candidate, Craig Pouncey.
