Lightfoot Attorneys Publish Law360 Article, ‘Questioning The Controlled Substances Act After Enmon’

Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC partners Jack Sharman and Brandon Essig and associate Jeffrey Doss have published an article in Law360, “Questioning the Controlled Substances Act After Enmon.” The original article addresses the Eleventh Circuit’s recent unpublished decision in United States v. Enmon and what it means for physicians and the lawyers who represent them.
“Given the government's increasingly aggressive prosecution of physicians with regard to controlled substances, white-collar practitioners who represent a physician or other healthcare professional in a “pill mill” case must understand and address these issues in pretrial briefing and in preparing their trial strategy and must do so early,” write Sharman, Essig and Doss.
The three attorneys recently concluded a seven-week federal “pill mill” trial. They also formed part of the team for the impeachment investigation of former Alabama governor Robert Bentley, an investigation in which Sharman served as special counsel to the Alabama House Judiciary Committee.
