Lightfoot Announces $10K Diversity Scholarship Paired With Summer Clerkship
January 5, 2021
In recognition of the importance of greater inclusion in the legal industry, Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC has launched a new annual diversity scholarship. The firm will award $10,000 and a summer clerkship in Birmingham to a promising law student enrolled in an American law school. The firm will accept applications for the 2021 scholarship from January 1 through March 1.
“As a firm, we are committed to ensuring our firm hires and develops talented lawyers from diverse backgrounds,” said managing partner Melody Eagan. “This is a core principle at Lightfoot and a crucial task for the entire legal profession. We see the scholarship as one of a number of tangible ways in which our firm can contribute.”
In pairing the scholarship with a summer clerkship, Lightfoot hopes to provide the recipient with an understanding of what it’s like to work at a leading litigation boutique. The firm’s unique, hands-on program allows participants to engage with the day-to-day experience of the life of a trial lawyer, including the opportunity to work on client matters and learn from some of the most experienced trial lawyers in the country.
“We pride ourselves on our summer program and what it offers to participants,” said Eagan. “That’s why we felt it was important to include a clerkship with the scholarship and provide well-rounded support to the recipient as they start their legal career.”
Applicants will be asked to submit their resume, transcripts, cover letter, and answers to the following two questions:
- Give an example of how your diverse life experiences have contributed to the person you are today and how you hope to use those experiences in your legal career.
- Do you have a personal connection to Birmingham, Houston or the U.S. Southeast? If not, tell us why you are interested in our summer program.
