Jack Sharman Speaks on Panel at the ABA’s Southeastern White-Collar Crime Institute
September 11, 2024
The American Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section invited Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC partner Jack Sharman to share his experiences with navigating the complex ethical nuances and challenges of handling widely publicized criminal matters.
Sharman was a panelist at the 10th annual Southeastern White-Collar Crime Institute on Sept. 6, which gathered experts from around the country to unpack the emerging issues affecting white-collar criminal enforcement. Sharman has regularly been invited to speak as a panelist or speaker over the past 10 years at these programs, reflecting his experience and reputation in the field. This year’s conference was held in Braselton, Georgia, from Sept. 4-6, and focused on current developments impacting white-collar criminal enforcement.
Sharman’s panel explored what lawyers need to know about the ethical standards that apply to high-profile criminal cases and how to comply with them, as well as strategies for managing media and client relations, retaining public affairs and crisis communications firms, and preserving attorney-client privilege. The discussion also covered ethical considerations around the U.S. Department of Justice’s press conferences and speaking indictments.
He spoke alongside co-panelists Henry Asbill of Schertler Onorato Mead & Sears LLP, Richard H. Deane Jr. of Jones Day, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan P. Kitchens of the Northern District of Georgia. Lynsey Barron of Barron Law LLC moderated the panel.
Sharman leads the firm's White-Collar Criminal Defense & Corporate Investigations practice and has practiced for more than 30 years. He has served as special counsel in numerous high-profile matters, including the Whitewater investigation of President Bill Clinton, the impeachment investigation of a former Alabama governor and the probe in Georgia into actions by President Donald Trump during the 2020 election.
