Jack Sharman Quoted in Washington Post Article on Trump’s Witness Tampering in January 6th investigation

As the January 6 Committee investigates the events surrounding the storming of the U.S. Capitol, the Washington Post looked to Lightfoot partner Jack Sharman for legal insight on the topic of witness tampering. 

In the article, Sharman explains that, in order to prove witness tampering, the Government must demonstrate the defendant’s wrongful intent. “Lawyers attempt to obstruct Congress all the time,” Sharman said. “The question is whether it’s wrongfully or corruptly.”

Sharman notes that most witness-tampering cases occur in the context of a judicial proceeding, and that the January 6 Committee may face an uphill battle to establish a record that could support federal grand jury charges against former President Trump or others.

Sharman is no stranger to high-profile investigations. Often sourced for his experience and legal acumen by publications nationwide, Sharman notably served as Special Counsel to Congress during the Whitewater investigation and in the highly publicized investigation of a phone call between President Donald Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger during the 2020 Presidential Election.
