November 14, 2024

Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC partners Haley A. Cox, Enrique J. Gimenez and Rachel M. Lary presented at The Trial Network’s Top Gun Litigation: Courtroom Mavericks conference on Oct. 24-26 in San Diego, California.

As Lightfoot’s hiring partner, Cox plays a pivotal role in recruiting diverse talent to Lightfoot. In her session, “Developing the Next Generation: Succession Planning for Clients and Outside Counsel,” Cox focused on identifying and cultivating junior talent, ethical issues to keep in mind when training lawyers and the importance of collaboration between clients and outside counsel.

Gimenez spoke on the panel titled “Game Changers: Legal and Regulatory Developments in Collegiate Sports” alongside Lightfoot alum William King, associate commissioner of the Southeastern Conference, and Adam Wolfe, chief legal and administrative officer for United Wholesale Mortgage. The panel was moderated by Katie Reilly, partner at Wheeler Trigg O’Donnell. Along with his fellow panelists, Gimenez spoke about recent and past antitrust cases, provided an overview of the history of the May settlement on name, image and likeness payments, and discussed the future of collegiate sports litigation.

Lary moderated the panel “Courage in the Courtroom: Overcoming Bias and Confronting Intimidation.” She joined Kathy Ehrhart, partner at Smith Gambrell Russell, Greg Marshall, partner at Snell & Wilmer and Anna Petosky, senior legal counsel of Prime Therapeutics, to discuss a recent eight-day trial victory in the D.C. Superior Court. The panelists discussed strategies to overcome unique challenges, including confronting and conquering imposter syndrome and triumphing over unfair biases and intimidation tactics from opposing counsel, as well as practical strategies for mental preparation and maintaining composure in the courtroom.

Cox oversees the intricacies of our summer program and pre-law diversity initiative, in addition to serving on the firm’s Executive Committee. Beyond her work giving back to Lightfoot, Cox consistently represents Fortune 500 clients in a large scope of cases ranging from Product Liability to Automotive and Professional Liability.

Gimenez represents Fortune 500 manufacturers, service providers and other defendants in product liability and commercial litigation. He has represented these clients in various settings, including state and federal court trials across the southeastern United States.

Lary leads Lightfoot’s product liability team for one of the largest automotive manufacturers, defending it against claims in ten Southeastern states and beyond. Her product liability work also includes defending a Fortune 500 company in high-stakes litigation across the country. She also serves as chair of the firm's Associate Committee.
