Court Awards Lightfoot Client $1 Million in Lease Dispute
February 6, 2024
Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC partner Amaobi J. Enyinnia successfully secured over $1 million in damages for a Hoover, Alabama shopping center in a lease dispute with a longtime tenant. Following a half-day bench trial led by Enyinnia, the court entered judgment in the client’s favor and awarded full damages.
The dispute arose from the tenant’s default in paying rental amounts, beginning in the third year of a ten-year lease agreement. Enyinnia assisted the shopping center in terminating the lease due to the default and then filed the lawsuit to enforce its provisions.
“It was gratifying to see the court find in our client’s favor,” said Enyinnia. “This was a clear case where rental amounts owed under the lease had not been paid. Our client followed the law and the parties’ deal in addressing the issue. We are happy to have prevailed on their behalf.”
Enyinnia’s practice focuses on commercial litigation, transportation, personal injury and product liability. In addition, he defends physicians confronting medical malpractice claims. Enyinnia applies his previous experience working in business, government, e-discovery and clinical settings to advance a client’s goals and develop efficient solutions that “move the ball forward.” He plays a key role in the firm as a member of Lightfoot’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and serves as a resource for recent law graduates through his work with chapters of the Black Law Students Association. Enyinnia holds a J.D. (magna cum laude) from the University of Tennessee College of Law and a B.A. from Vanderbilt University.
