Brian Kappel as Sports Panelist for Cumberland School of Law

Lightfoot partner Brian Kappel was featured last week on a panel at Cumberland School of Law discussing his Sports Law litigation work. Panelists discussed the benefits and challenges of a career in Sports Law, advice for interested students and important lessons learned.  

A former collegiate and minor league pitcher and experienced litigator, Brian Kappel regularly counsels institutions, coaches, administrators and student-athletes involved in or affected by NCAA investigations. He also defends clients and provides strategic advice beyond the specific legal issues in play, often touching on ancillary topics. In addition to playing an essential role in the firm’s NCAA Compliance and Investigations practice, Kappel maintains a developed business and commercial litigation practice while also handling cases of antitrust, complex class action and product liability claims. Kappel is actively involved in the legal community as a member of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, Defense Research Institute, LEAD1 and National Association of Athletics Counsel.
