Brandon Essig and Henry Gimenez Present at Alabama State Bar Annual Meeting
August 7, 2019
Lightfoot, Franklin & White LLC partners Brandon Essig and Henry Gimenez served as session speakers during last month’s Alabama State Bar annual meeting. Their topic was “The Collision of Criminal Law and NCAA Bylaws,” and they presented along with Jay M. Ezelle from Starnes Davis Florie LLP.
The presentation addressed recent scandals and allegations of cheating and bribery involving college athletics programs. This included a discussion of the rise of law enforcement investigations into college sports and what that means for those that lead academic institutions.
Essig and Gimenez are members of Lightfoot’s NCAA Compliance & Investigations practice group. That group represents institutions, athletic administrators and prominent coaches in NCAA compliance interviews and investigations, as well as in hearings before the NCAA Committee on Infractions and the Infractions Appeals Committee. The team also has experience conducting internal investigations of campus issues involving Title IX, sexual misconduct and other student welfare matters.
