Johnny Johnson is an environmental and toxic tort litigation pioneer.
Named an “Energy and Environmental Trailblazer” in 2017 and 2021 by the National Law Journal, Johnny is one of the Southeast’s most experienced and battle-tested major case lawyers. One of Lightfoot’s founding partners, he has spent more than 30 years defending leading companies against environmental and mass tort litigation, including class actions and individual toxic tort lawsuits. He also maintains a strong business and product liability litigation practice, handling a variety of cases in those areas. In addition, Johnny serves as a member of the firm's Executive Committee.
Johnny is not only an environmental and toxic tort pioneer, but also wrote the book on it — literally. He is the author of The Pesticide Litigation Manual, which was first published in 1991 and is still in print today under the title Defending Pesticides in Litigation. The author of several law review articles addressing issues in this area, Johnny is also a frequent speaker at industry and legal seminars.
Through his mass tort practice, Johnny became a leader in developing protocols for efficiently managing complex litigation. He lectures frequently on this subject, discussing the systems he developed for budgeting and tracking litigation costs.
Johnny is a past president of the Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit that raises funds to support ovarian cancer research and awareness of the risks, symptoms and treatments of the disease. He and his wife Jennifer have three children.
